This year’s crop of trending colors is borrowed from another kind of “palate.”
Pinterest has revealed its annual color palette report, spotlighting a custom color lineup inspired by their Pinterest Predicts trend report that will “set the tone” for the year.
Their 2025 Color Palette of the Year includes such food-inspired hues as Cherry Red, Butter Yellow, Aura Indigo, Dill Green and Alpine Oat.
“The Pinterest Palette is inspired entirely by Pinners—what they’re searching, saving and shopping for on our platform. But it’s made for creatives like you,” Xanthe Wells, VP of Global Creative at Pinterest, said in a statement.
Cherry Red, inspired by the Cherry Coded trend, is a bold hue that makes a statement. “Cherry Red Girl” and “Cherry Girl Style” has taken over TikTok with millennials and Gen Z putting the cherry on top of their outfits.
On a more subtle note, Butter Yellow is a “pinch of playful, a dollop of whimsy,” inspired by trends like Dolled Up, Fisherman Aesthetic and Surreal Soirees. Though the color is soft and pastel, the yellow brings warmth to any room.
Pinterest described Aura Indigo as “lilac, but with an edge.” The cosmic-inspired moody color pulls from trends such as Sea Witchery and Aura Beauty.
And it seems like everyone wants to be in that “Lavender Haze,” with a 120% increase in searches for “purple core,” 175% increase in “purple lavender aesthetic,” and 100% increase in “lilac shirt outfit men.”
Another color trend straight from the fridge: Dill Green. While Pinterest was inspired by trends like Pickle Fix and Terra Futura, pickles have been having a cultural moment for some time.
Pickles have won Gen Z’s hearts and taken over social media with trends such as a pickle juice-Diet Coke mashup, “Picklewich” sandwiches, pickle cupcakes, a pickle-flavored toothpaste and glitter pickles, or what the youths are calling “glickles.”
The final color listed by Pinterest is Alpine Oat, a “new neutral” born from trends like Peak Travel and Moto Boho.
There’s been an increase in searches for “beige room aesthetic” — perhaps by the beige moms — as well as “neutral outfits women” and “beige tiles bathroom.”
