rewrite this title My boyfriend’s laundry detergent hack makes no sense — but is it ‘insane’ or actually ‘normal’?

A woman is airing her dirty laundry about her boyfriend on TikTok.

An Australian woman called out her partner for the way he uses laundry detergent — and it bubbled up a fiery debate.

The discussion begged the question: When doing laundry, do you pour liquid detergent into the cap and then pour the liquid into the machine, pour detergent directly into the machine, or fill the cap and throw in the detergent-filled lid with the clothes?

The gal’s beau put the cap with the soap directly into the machine, which she called “mental behavior.”

“Help?? I just asked my bf where the cap for the detergent is and he said, ‘Oh I just fill it up and throw it in?’” she wrote over the video.

“With ALL the clothes??” the woman questioned.

Her boyfriend was “so convinced” that his method was “normal,” he was then seen searching the detergent’s label for instructions saying so.

There were loads of differing opinions in the clip’s comments section — and many people took the side of the boyfriend.

“Girl, don’t make me defend a man,” someone quipped.

“I do this?? so the cap isn’t covered in gross smiley soap residue??” one person shared.

“He’s 1,000 percent right on this one. It pains me to take a man’s side tho,” another wrote.

“He’s right but tell him we said that he’s wrong,” a commenter joked.

Some agreed with the woman that it was not a “normal” way to do laundry.

“In all my 26 years on Earth, I’ve never seen or heard about anyone throwing the cap in the washing machine!!” someone said.

“There’s no way this comment section is real. Do you people also bake your measuring cups inside your bread?” one person asked.

“I was expecting all of these comments to be, like, yeah, that’s insane but instead I’m just more confused,” another wrote.

“Girl I’ve NEVER heard of anyone doing this either — this blew my mind, are the people in these comments gaslighting?” a user wrote.

But another TikTokker discovered that if you read the fine print on the cap of a Tide detergent bottle, it tells you to do just that.

Ally Ames (@aames14) wrote on her video, “POV: you just learned that the cap gets washed with the clothes.”

She shows that the cap on the detergent reads, “TOSS IN WASH OR RINSE AFTER USE.”

While it’s always best to check the laundry cup for instructions, other reports have noted that major laundry brands such as Gain, All, Tide and Arm & Hammer all include caps that can be thrown in the wash.

However, according to Scripps station KATC, you shouldn’t throw the cup in every time you do laundry because the washer’s high speeds can thin the plastic if it’s done too often.

People should also be mindful not to put the cap in the dryer, either, since the heat could ruin the cap and possibly even your clothes.

Meanwhile, cleaning experts previously revealed that people are using more laundry detergent than necessary to get through their loads.

The pros from Appliance Doctors claimed the measuring cup is nearly 10 times larger than what’s actually needed.

Rather, they recommended 2 teaspoons of liquid detergent or 2 tablespoons of powdered detergent.
