rewrite this title Gen Z reinvents the potluck dinner in pricey, new viral game: ‘I’d have anxiety’

This food trend hit the jackpot.

A new viral game has landed on TikTok — but the grub that comes out of it is a gamble for everyone involved.

Groups of friends have been playing “Uber Eats Roulette,” with each person ordering a specific dollar’s worth of food and not telling anyone what they ordered until it arrived.

The trick of the game is that, because no one knows what other people ordered, there’s a possibility of a repeat order from the same restaurant.

“Everyone spends $30 to $40 and orders enough food for two to three people. We all order at the same time and put our phones down. We don’t discuss or disclose what we order. Could we wind up with eight pizzas? Sure, we could. But that’s part of the fun,” one user explained.

In one viral video with 5.1 million views that was posted by singer Lily Rose, she and four of her friends each ordered $30 worth of food and stressfully waited for the deluge of deliveries.

They ended up with Taco Bell, Chinese food, Mexican, chicken wings and tacos.

“This is the type of potluck I want to participate in,” one person commented.

“My stomach would be in absolute SHAMBLES!!” another quipped.

“I’d have anxiety with all the delivery drivers getting there at the same time,” someone else added.

Another group of friends garnered 4.2 million views on their viral video in which two of them had the same delivery driver pick up their orders, leaving everyone questioning whether they ordered from the same restaurant.

Even with the same driver, their orders were from different places, and they didn’t get a repeat. The group ended up with 42 chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-A, two types of pasta in one order, chicken curry, tacos, gluten-free pizza and wings, and the Friendsgiving Special from KFC, as well as a variety of desserts from Outback Steakhouse.

“But how did you get such a great variety?! This worked so perfectly,” one viewer marveled.

One group of friends argued that the trend was perfect for a “girls’ night” — which prompted one user to respond that this was indeed “girl dinner.”

But many people in video comments pointed out that $30 on Uber Eats doesn’t get very far.

“$30 including fees or before fees and tip?” someone asked.

“$30 worth of food on Uber Eats is, like, 1 thing,” one said.

“This trend is so dumb. I’m sorry but Uber Eats is so overpriced, you get, like, two small items for $40 plus tip. That’s like really good restaurant money spent on trash takeout,” one person criticized.
