The author discusses their favorite countries to revisit, highlighting places they initially thought would be a one-time visit but ended up wanting to go back. Rwanda surprised the author with its natural beauty and welcoming atmosphere, especially after the closure of the Burundi border forced them to explore more of the country. The reconciliation efforts after the 1994 genocide, the stunning landscape of hills and tea plantations, and the primate trekking experiences all left a lasting impression on the author.

Saudi Arabia offered the author unique experiences, from watching the sunset at the “Edge of the World” to exploring the Valley of the Palm Trees in Wadi Al Disah. The historical sites of Petra and Hegra illuminated by candlelight created a mystical atmosphere, and the genuine hospitality of the people made the author feel welcome. A spontaneous visit to a Bedouin camp allowed the author to learn more about the nomadic lifestyle and connect with the locals on a deeper level.

Montenegro, often overshadowed by its neighbor Croatia, provided the author with a chance to cycle through its stunning landscapes, turquoise waters, and historic sites. The Bay of Kotor, Europe’s southernmost fjord, and the charming village of Sveti Stefan left a lasting impression. The author’s interactions with a talkative priest in a Serbian Orthodox church and the scenic coastal views along the Adriatic Sea make Montenegro a destination worth revisiting.

Antarctica, the coldest, windiest, and driest continent, captivated the author with its pristine landscapes and fiery sunsets. Visiting King George Island and interacting with researchers at a Polish research base showcased the unique community spirit of those living in such extreme conditions. The untouched natural beauty of Antarctica and the opportunity to explore on foot and by kayak left the author eager to return to experience the serenity of the White Continent once again.

Vanuatu, one of the least visited countries in the world due to its remoteness, offers breathtaking experiences such as the world’s most accessible active volcano, Mount Yasur, and world-class snorkeling in clear waters. Witnessing a traditional land-diving ritual on Pentecost Island, reminiscent of bungee jumping, allowed the author to immerse themselves in tribal traditions and cultural practices. Despite the challenges of getting to Vanuatu, the author found the experiences and interactions with locals to be rewarding and unforgettable.

Overall, the author’s favorite countries to revisit are those that surprised them with their natural beauty, cultural richness, and warm hospitality. From the lush landscapes of Rwanda to the mysterious allure of Saudi Arabia, the historic charm of Montenegro, the serene landscapes of Antarctica, and the traditional rituals of Vanuatu, each destination offers a unique and memorable travel experience that leaves a lasting impact on the author.
