Tiffany Haddish has decided to stop drinking alcohol, except in the case of getting engaged, following her second DUI arrest in November 2023. The Girls Trip star, who has been on a sobriety journey in recent months, shared in an interview with Extra that she is committed to not drinking any alcohol, unless she gets engaged and wants to show her fiancé how crazy she can get for one day. She opened up about her sobriety journey and how it has been going great for her, citing the positive effects it has had on her well-being.
In November 2023, Haddish was arrested for a DUI in Los Angeles, which was her second DUI in two years. She was charged with two DUI misdemeanors and pleaded not guilty the following month. However, in February, both charges were dropped after she accepted a plea deal and pleaded no contest to a “wet reckless” charge, which is a reckless driving charge involving alcohol. Her lawyer confirmed that the DUI charge was dismissed, and Haddish was glad to put the incident behind her.
Haddish first revealed her sobriety journey in March on the podcast “The Conversation With Amanda de Cadenet,” mentioning that she had not consumed alcohol or smoked weed in 72 days. She also shared that her sobriety was court-mandated, with Georgia authorities requiring her to do driving alcohol tests. In addition to sobriety, Haddish has also been practicing celibacy, which she revealed in an interview with People in April. She mentioned that the two decisions, sobriety and celibacy, went together for her and have helped her make healthier choices in her life.
As she continues on her sobriety journey, Haddish remains open about her decision to not engage in sexual activities while still dating. She clarified in her interview with Extra that she is not abstaining from dating but is refraining from having intercourse. Haddish humorously mentioned that she loves a free meal, indicating that her decision to remain celibate is a personal choice that aligns with her current lifestyle. By being open about her decisions and sharing her journey, Haddish hopes to inspire others and promote a healthy and mindful approach to relationships and self-care.
