Michel Barnier continues his consultations with various political groups, meeting with members of the Horizons and MoDem parties. He has already met with members of Ensemble pour la République and is set to attend the parliamentary days of Horizons in Reims and MoDem in Cély-en-Bière. While his participation in the Republican party’s parliamentary days has not yet been confirmed, Barnier has met with a number of key figures, including Marc Fesneau, Stéphane Séjourné, and Hervé Marseille from the MoDem, as well as Bruno Le Maire and Thomas Cazenave from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

On Monday, Barnier met with officials from the LIOT group, and on Sunday, he had an hour-long meeting with leaders of Horizons and MoDem, including François Bayrou. However, leaders of the Socialist Party, including Olivier Faure and Boris Vallaud, have declined meetings with Barnier until after he delivers his statement of general policy in the Assembly. On the communist side, Fabien Roussel, André Chassaigne, and Cécile Cukierman plan to meet with Barnier next Tuesday to discuss various political issues.

Barnier’s meetings with different political groups come as he seeks to build support and gather perspectives on key policy issues. By engaging with a range of parties, including Horizons, MoDem, and potentially the Republicans, Barnier aims to create a broad coalition around his policy proposals. His meetings with key figures such as François Bayrou and Bruno Le Maire demonstrate his commitment to engaging with a diverse range of perspectives within the political landscape.

While some political leaders, such as those from the Socialist Party, have opted to wait until after Barnier’s policy statement to engage in discussions, others, like the leaders of the MoDem and the LIOT group, have been proactive in meeting with him. This indicates a willingness on the part of certain parties to engage in dialogue and potentially support Barnier’s policy agenda. The upcoming meetings with communist leaders show a continued effort by Barnier to engage with a wide range of political ideologies and perspectives.

Overall, Barnier’s consultations with various political groups demonstrate his commitment to engaging with a broad spectrum of perspectives and building support for his policy proposals. By meeting with leaders from Horizons, MoDem, the Republicans, and other parties, Barnier seeks to create a coalition that can support his vision for the country. As he continues his consultations and meetings with key political figures, it remains to be seen how these discussions will shape his policy agenda and build support within the political landscape.
