The Celtics’ championship celebration served as a defiant response to their critics

The Boston Celtics recently celebrated their 18th NBA title with a parade through the streets of Boston. The team, led by Finals MVP Jaylen Brown, took to the streets to celebrate their victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Brown received MVP chants and was seen partying with Chicago Sky guard Kysre Gondrezick during the parade. The team also sent out victory cigars with messages from skeptics to be smoked at the parade, commemorating their NBA-best number of titles.

Despite suffering a torn meniscus in March, Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla made sure to join in on the celebration. Mazzulla, wearing a shirt paying tribute to Celtics legends Bill Russell and Red Auerbach, high-fived fans and screamed with joy during the parade. This parade was the Celtics’ first since 2008, and the broader New England region has become accustomed to celebrating sports championships with euphoria.

The Boston area has had recent success in sports, with the New England Patriots winning six Super Bowls and the Red Sox winning the World Series in 2013 and 2018. Despite some lowlights, such as forward Sam Hauser vomiting after drinking too much during the parade, the Celtics’ celebration was a memorable one. It may not have been as wild as some recent celebrations, such as Tom Brady being famously drunk during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2021 Super Bowl party or Draymond Green’s antics after the Warriors won the 2022 NBA Finals.

The continued success of Boston sports teams has led to a culture of celebration in the region. With the next NBA season set to kick off in October, the celebrations are likely to continue for the next four months. The parade was a chance for Celtics fans to come together and celebrate the team’s historic victory, as well as to show appreciation for the players and coaches who brought home the championship. Overall, the parade was a joyful occasion for the team and its fans, marking a successful season and adding another title to the Celtics’ storied history.
