The call from Macron, Al-Sissi and King Abdallah II for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza

The war in Gaza has led to catastrophic human suffering and must come to an immediate end. Peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved through terrorism, violence, or war, but rather through a two-state solution. This is the only credible option to ensure peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians, preventing them from experiencing the horrors they have faced since the attacks of October 7, 2023. The UN Security Council’s demand for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza on March 25 was a crucial step that must be implemented promptly.

The leaders of Egypt, France, and Jordan are calling for the immediate and unconditional implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2728, as well as the urgent establishment of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. They also support negotiations facilitated by Egypt, the United States, and Qatar regarding the ceasefire, hostages, and prisoners. Emphasizing the importance of respecting all lives equally, they urge all parties to adhere to relevant UN Security Council resolutions and warn against the dangers of an Israeli offensive in Rafah, where over 1.5 million Palestinian civilians have sought refuge.

The leaders reaffirm their commitment to equal respect for all lives and condemn all violations of international humanitarian law, including acts of violence, terrorism, and indiscriminate attacks against civilians. Protecting civilians is a fundamental legal obligation for all parties involved, forming the cornerstone of international humanitarian law. Any violations of this obligation are strictly prohibited. The Palestinians in Gaza are not just at risk of famine, but it is already setting in. There is an urgent need for a significant increase in the supply and distribution of humanitarian aid, as emphasized in UN Security Council Resolutions 2720 and 2728.

The situation in Gaza is dire, with a growing humanitarian crisis that requires immediate attention and action. The international community must work together to address the root causes of the conflict and promote a lasting peace through a two-state solution. It is crucial for all parties involved to uphold international law, respect human rights, and prioritize the well-being of civilians in the region. By working towards a sustainable ceasefire, the leaders of Egypt, France, and Jordan are actively seeking to end the suffering and violence in Gaza and pave the way for a peaceful and secure future for all.
