Simone Weber, known as the “Diabolique de Nancy”, passed away on April 11, 2019, at the age of 94 in Cannes, France. Her lawyer, Liliane Glock, confirmed her death to the Agence France-Presse. Weber gained notoriety in 1991 when she was found guilty of the murder of her former lover, Bernard Hettier, by using a concrete grinder. She was acquitted of poisoning her second husband, Marcel Fixard, as she never confessed and his body was never found.

Weber was sentenced to twenty years in prison but was released in 1999 after serving fourteen years. She then moved to the French Riviera where she resided until her death. The case of Simone Weber fascinated the public due to the sensational nature of the crimes she was accused of committing. Her stoic demeanor during the trial and her refusal to admit guilt added to the mystery surrounding her.

Despite the court ruling that Weber was responsible for Hettier’s death, she maintained her innocence until the end. The fact that she never confessed to the crime — and the body of her second husband was never found — has continued to fuel speculation and debate about her guilt. Some believe that her convictions were justified, while others argue that there was not enough evidence to support the verdict.

The nickname “Diabolique de Nancy” stuck with Simone Weber throughout her life, serving as a reminder of the dark and sinister acts she was accused of. The case of Weber remains one of the most infamous criminal trials in French history, capturing the attention of the public and the media for years. Her death in 2019 marked the end of a controversial and enigmatic figure who had evoked both fascination and fear.

Simone Weber’s legacy continues to be a subject of interest and debate among those familiar with her case. Her uncompromising demeanor, refusal to confess, and the mysterious circumstances surrounding the crimes she was accused of committing have ensured that her story remains a topic of discussion. Despite her passing, the memory of the “Diabolique de Nancy” lives on, leaving behind a complex and haunting legacy that continues to intrigue and captivate those who delve into the details of her life and crimes.
