Travel is one of the most common topics users search for on ChatGPT, according to Colin Jarvis, head of forward deployed engineering at OpenAI.
That’s why the company wants to get that topic right before pushing new releases — though that doesn’t mean OpenAI is looking to become a travel company.
“I don’t necessarily see us wanting to do something specific for travel, but I think it is one of the primary cases that we test our software for to make sure that it performs well in that area,” said Jarvis in an interview with Skift.
Jarvis has been building a new team that works with companies to help them build applications powered by the same generative AI that powers the consumer-facing product ChatGPT.
One of his major clients: Booking.com.
The online travel agency first released an AI-powered trip planner in 2023 and has made several updates along the way, including adding an AI filter feature for property searches and AI-generated review summaries.
