A California fire captain was killed inside her San Diego-area home Monday night after she was repeatedly stabbed in a possible domestic violence attack, according to authorities.
Firefighter Rebecca Marodi, 49, was found with multiple wounds after San Diego County Sheriff’s Office personnel reached her Ramona home around 9 p.m., the agency said in a news release.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Investigators suspect that the victim knew the perpetrator and are treating this case as a potential domestic violence incident,” the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities have not announced the arrest of a suspect as of Wednesday night.
Marodi worked for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection for over 30 years, serving in Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties.

A neighbor told KTLA she hadn’t noticed any commotion at Marodi’s home.
“They’d be mowing, they’d be doing wood, gardening … you know the usual stuff,” Monika Evans said. “Never saw any problems.”
Riverside sheriff officials, along with CAL FIRE, said in a joint statement Tuesday that Marodi’s death is a “profound loss” for her loved ones and colleagues.
“Her legacy of mentorship, service, and dedication will be felt for years to come,” the two departments said.
