Vincent Florence, a 28-year-old man from Penticton, B.C., was allegedly attacked outside of a local liquor store three days before Christmas. Florence had walked over to the Barley Mill liquor store after having a few drinks at the pub next door and has no memory of the events that took place. His parents received a call from a doctor at Kelowna General Hospital in the middle of the night, informing them of their son’s serious injuries and the urgent need to get to the hospital. Florence was allegedly attacked unprovoked by strangers outside of the liquor store, and surveillance footage showed that he was robbed during the attack.
Florence’s mother, Roxanne Zeiler, expressed disbelief that someone would brutally hurt her son for no reason other than taking $100 from his wallet. Florence himself mentioned that he would have avoided conflict if he had been aware of the situation, and he would have been willing to offer whatever the attackers needed. The family was grateful for the heroic actions of one of the Barley Mill liquor store employees, who potentially saved Florence’s life by placing him in the resting position, calling 9-1-1, and staying with him while he was on the ground. The employee was referred to as an ‘angel’ by Florence’s family for his quick response and care.
The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Florence’s expenses as he recovers at home from two brain surgeries. Florence expressed gratitude for the support he has received from the community during this difficult time. Florence mentioned that he is thankful for everyone who is helping him through this recovery process. Despite the traumatic experience, Florence remains positive and appreciative of the kindness and generosity shown to him during this challenging period.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has not confirmed if any arrests have been made in connection with the attack on Florence outside of the liquor store. Images of the suspects have not been released by the RCMP at this time. The family is hopeful that justice will be served, and those responsible for the attack will be held accountable for their actions. Florence’s family is focused on supporting his recovery and ensuring that he has the resources and care needed to continue healing from the traumatic brain injuries sustained during the attack.
The incident has shocked the community of Penticton, B.C., and raised concerns about safety and security in public spaces. Florence’s story has brought attention to the need for increased vigilance and awareness of potential dangers in everyday situations. The family’s GoFundMe campaign has garnered support from individuals who want to contribute to Florence’s recovery and show solidarity in the face of violence and adversity. The community’s response has been heartwarming and demonstrates the strength and resilience of individuals coming together to support one of their own during a time of need.
