Gabriel Attal, the Prime Minister, is targeting the National Rally party six days before the election. He was appointed to his position in January with the specific goal of combating the National Rally’s lead candidate, Jordan Bardella, in the European election campaign. Attal has been making numerous media appearances in the lead-up to the election, including on France 5 on Thursday and at a large campaign event with Valérie Hayer on Saturday. Currently, he is speaking on Franceinfo where he stressed the importance of the 9th of June elections, calling them “probably the most significant in the history of European elections.”

Attal highlighted the significant challenges facing Europe today, including the threat of war, climate change, the impact of artificial intelligence on our lives, and competition from American and Chinese markets. He argued that facing these challenges will require collaboration and unity, rather than isolation, as proposed by other political parties. Attal specifically targeted the National Rally, which has been leading in the polls, surpassing the presidential camp’s list by a significant margin. He warned of the dangers of having an extreme right-wing party capable of blocking the European Parliament and other European institutions.

The Prime Minister raised concerns about the National Rally’s opposition to EU projects and treaties, citing the potential consequences if Europe had been blocked in the past five years, such as during the Covid crisis when vaccines were needed. He criticized the National Rally’s proposal for national preference in public procurement, arguing that it would harm French companies that rely on exports and contracts in other EU countries. Attal also highlighted the government’s plan to invest 1 trillion euros in green industries, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies as part of their economic strategy.

Attal’s focus on countering the National Rally’s nationalist and anti-EU stance reflects the government’s commitment to promoting European unity and cooperation in facing global challenges. By emphasizing the importance of the upcoming elections in shaping the future of Europe, Attal is urging voters to consider the implications of supporting parties that prioritize isolationism over collaboration. The Prime Minister’s warnings about the potential consequences of an extreme right-wing party gaining power in the European Parliament underscore the high stakes of the election and the need for informed and thoughtful decision-making by voters.

In conclusion, Gabriel Attal’s efforts to target the National Rally and promote the government’s vision for a united and cooperative Europe are central themes of his campaign ahead of the European elections. By highlighting the risks of nationalist policies and advocating for a forward-looking economic strategy centered on innovation and sustainability, Attal is positioning the government as a pro-Europe, progressive alternative to the National Rally’s anti-EU platform. With the election just days away, the outcome will not only determine the composition of the European Parliament but also shape the future of EU policies and initiatives in response to pressing global challenges.
