The Ministry of Transport announced the launch of a mission against violence on the roads following the death of a cyclist in Paris, who was allegedly deliberately hit by a motorist. Titled “Against Violence, Protecting all Road Users,” this four-month mission aims to address the sense of insecurity among cyclists and other road users, as well as identifying violent behaviors on the road. The mission will make proposals regarding road safety education, infrastructure improvements, and the detection and legal response to violent behaviors on the road.
The objective of the mission is to promote harmonious sharing of urban space and ensure better use of roads for all users, whether they are driving, cycling, or walking. The Minister Delegate for Transport, François Durovray, emphasized the need to address and prevent violence on the roads, urging society to recognize and condemn these acts. Alexis Frémeaux, co-president of the French Federation of Bicycle Users (FUB), highlighted the importance of creating a community where cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians coexist peacefully. He emphasized the increasing number of cyclists and the necessity for all drivers to respect and accommodate them on the roads.
