Biden considering a December surprise at UN to rebuke Netanyahu like Obama

The proposal of a binding resolution by 10 non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, intended to impose an end to Israel’s battle against Hamas terrorists in Gaza, has sparked concerns that the Biden administration may support the measure to send a strong message to the Netanyahu government. Tensions between Biden and Netanyahu have been high since Israel launched its self-defense operation against Hamas in October 2023. There is speculation that Biden may seek payback against Netanyahu by allowing the resolution to pass, similar to a 2016 action by President Obama just before Trump’s inauguration.

The proposed Security Council draft resolution is criticized for failing to secure the release of over 100 hostages, including Americans, being held by Hamas. Israel’s ambassador to the U.N. has condemned the resolution as one-sided and lacking provisions for the hostages’ release. Russia has expressed its support for the resolution, calling for an immediate cease-fire and the release of hostages. Israel has accused Al Jazeera of employing Hamas terrorists as reporters, fueling the controversy surrounding the resolution and its potential impact on the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Israel has raised fears that the Biden administration may follow in Obama’s footsteps by taking actions against Israel during the transition period. While the U.S. State Department spokesperson did not disclose the administration’s stance on the resolution, there are concerns that the Biden administration may support punitive measures against Israel in its lame-duck period. The State Department has been queried about the newly proposed resolution and its potential implications for Israel.

Critics argue that a Security Council resolution demanding an unconditional cease-fire without addressing the release of hostages or the threat posed by Hamas is not conducive to peace. The proposed resolution is seen as favoring Hamas and overlooking Israel’s security concerns. The 10 non-permanent members of the Security Council have been accused of trying to ‘Trump-proof’ the Biden administration by pushing for resolutions that could jeopardize Israel’s security and sovereignty. The continuous scrutiny and pressure from the U.N. could lead to further unrest and animosity towards Israel.

The actions surrounding the proposed resolution reflect a broader trend of utilizing the U.N. to undermine Israel and American sovereignty. By leveraging the Security Council to push resolutions that prioritize appeasing adversaries over protecting the interests of Israel and the U.S., there are fears of escalating tensions and violence in the region. The potential consequences of a one-sided resolution could exacerbate the conflict between Israel and Hamas and undermine efforts towards a lasting peace agreement. It is essential for the U.S. to consider the implications of supporting resolutions that may harm the stability and security of Israel and the region.
