The family of Cédric Cornet, mayor of Le Gosier in Guadeloupe, has filed a complaint for “assassination” against an unknown person, announced their lawyer on April 3. Cornet, a married man, father of a newborn, and registered sex offender, was found at home in a state of rigor mortis on March 21.
In the family’s complaint, they reject the possibility of an accidental choking incident, mentioning the apparent introduction of a foreign body measuring 8 cm by 5 cm by one or more individuals. The body was found completely naked on the bathroom floor. The results of the autopsy, released by the public prosecutor’s office in Pointe-à-Pitre, revealed that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxiation due to the obstruction of the upper airways by a large foreign body, specifically a piece of meat. In January 2023, he was also indicted for embezzlement, favoritism, and employing undeclared workers, and was placed under judicial supervision.
