In an interview with Ouest-France published on November 3, Cazeneuve stated that he is not building a destiny for himself but rather focusing on contributing to collective reflection. He emphasized the importance of the reconstruction of the center-left movement not being driven by personal ambitions but by a shared commitment to addressing the country’s challenges.
While Cazeneuve is considered a potential candidate for the next presidential election on the left, he insists that he is not pursuing a personal destiny. According to him, the left can only rebuild if individuals put aside personal considerations and work together towards a common project. He is committed to facing his responsibilities but is also open to exploring alternative options to prevent the far-right National Rally from coming to power. Cazeneuve believes that in the current historical circumstances, it is crucial to prioritize a shared vision over personal ambitions.
Last summer, Cazeneuve met with President Emmanuel Macron when Macron was searching for a Prime Minister to form a government. Despite the meeting, Cazeneuve did not receive enough support from the left due to his stance against La France Insoumise, a left-wing party. Ultimately, Michel Barnier was chosen over Cazeneuve to lead the government. Cazeneuve has been critical of Barnier’s political orientation, which he perceives as being too far to the right. He acknowledges Barnier’s qualities but condemns the direction of his government.
Cazeneuve’s focus on presenting a project for the country at the beginning of next summer aligns with his belief that the left’s revival depends on collective effort and a shared commitment to addressing national challenges.
