Xavier Bertrand, president of the Hauts-de-France region, is actively campaigning in the North of France, despite not being a candidate in the legislative elections. He enjoys engaging with voters and supporting candidates, including his friend Jean-Pierre Bataille, who is running for the 15th constituency of the department. Bertrand emphasizes the importance of defeating the Rassemblement National (RN) candidate Pierrick Berteloot in the upcoming elections, highlighting the need for unity among right-leaning Republicans to counter the far-right party.

During a campaign event at a farm in Renescure, Bertrand addressed a group of farmers, expressing his support for Bataille and criticizing the RN for their lack of governing ability. He also took a swipe at Jordan Bardella, a prominent figure in the RN, accusing him of backtracking on key points in the party’s program. Bertrand highlighted the contrast between those who take action, like Bataille, and those who do not, such as the RN. He also condemned the recent acts of violence and antisemitism in Courbevoie, emphasizing the need to address the root causes of such behavior and calling for stricter enforcement of existing laws.

Bardella’s recent remarks and the RN’s perceived inability to govern have fueled Bertrand’s critique of the far-right party. He believes that the RN leaders are revealing their true colors through their inconsistencies and lack of concrete solutions. Bertrand’s experience in defeating Marine Le Pen twice in regional elections gives him a unique perspective on the challenges posed by the far-right movement in France. He sees the upcoming legislative elections as a critical opportunity to prevent the RN from gaining further influence and to promote a more inclusive and effective approach to governance.

Bertrand also addressed the issue of antisemitism, which he views as a national scourge affecting all levels of society. He emphasized the importance of addressing the underlying causes of such hatred and called for stronger enforcement of penalties for minors involved in such crimes. While acknowledging the complex factors contributing to antisemitism, Bertrand expressed confidence that solutions can be found through a comprehensive approach that includes education, parental involvement, and targeted enforcement measures. He criticized extreme parties like the RN and LFI for their lack of effective solutions to social issues.

In the lead-up to the legislative elections, Bertrand remains focused on promoting unity and mobilizing support for Republican candidates like Bataille. He believes that defeating the RN in key constituencies is essential for maintaining a stable and inclusive political landscape in France. By engaging with voters and addressing important social issues, Bertrand aims to demonstrate his commitment to effective governance and his vision for a stronger, more cohesive society. As the campaign intensifies, Bertrand’s leadership and political acumen will be put to the test in the competitive electoral environment.
