On the occasion of Europe Day and one month before the European elections, which will be held on June 9 in France, Le Monde is launching its daily live coverage dedicated to following the campaign. From Monday to Friday, follow the travels and speeches of the main candidates, the debates between candidates in France and in the 27 member states. On Thursday, May 9, we will have two guests in chat sessions. Nathalie Brack, a political scientist specializing in European institutions, will answer questions starting at 10 am to assess the European Parliament’s role over the past five years in shaping the EU’s major policies. Has its importance been secondary, weakened in comparison to the executives of the member states and the Commission, or has it been strengthened through crises? Have the political balances evolved in Parliament over the course of the mandate? Philippe Jacqué, Le Monde’s correspondent in Brussels, will then answer questions starting at 3 pm, this time to discuss the prospects and stakes of the election in Europe. What major campaign themes are emerging within the 27 and in Brussels? What are the electoral dynamics for the various political groups in Parliament? To what extent can we expect a rise in sovereignism and the far right? What could change within the institutions based on the results of June 9?
