The European Commission is planning to investigate Meta Platforms’ Facebook and Instagram due to concerns that they are not doing enough to counter disinformation from Russia and other countries, particularly in the realm of political advertising that could impact the electoral process. The Commission is expected to release a statement on Monday raising these concerns, although it will not single out Russia specifically. Meta has stated that they have processes in place to address potential risks on their platforms and are willing to provide further details to the European Commission.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited Ukraine and addressed lawmakers, showing support for the country amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. At the same time, Tajikistan expressed concerns over the treatment of its citizens by Russia, including instances of deportation and lack of appropriate conditions for stranded individuals. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy highlighted the need for faster delivery of U.S. military supplies to counter Russian advances in the east.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have captured a village in Donetsk, Ukraine, as part of ongoing military operations. This move comes after Ukrainian forces withdrew from multiple locations to prevent further casualties. Additionally, North Korea criticized the U.S. for supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine, expressing support for Russia. Meanwhile, the messaging app Telegram unblocked chatbots used by Ukraine for security purposes after a brief suspension.

Reports from the UK Ministry of Defense highlighted an increase in civilian casualties in Ukraine due to intensified Russian bombardment. The continued conflict has resulted in the destruction of critical infrastructure and an increase in child casualties. At the Ukrainian-Polish border, protests by Polish farmers temporarily disrupted the flow of goods, but have since been resolved. Ukraine continues to await vital military aid from the U.S. to bolster its defenses against Russian aggression, with President Zelenskyy emphasizing the need for immediate support.

As tensions continue to escalate, Ukrainian forces have faced setbacks in recent battles against Russian troops, prompting concerns about the worsening situation at the front. Russia has threatened severe responses if its assets are touched, indicating a willingness to engage in legal battles and retaliate against Western actions. Despite these challenges, Ukraine remains determined to defend its territory and seek international support to counter Russian aggression and restore stability to the region.
