Ziaire Williams of the Nets makes a flashy comeback after recovering from back injury

Ziaire Williams made a triumphant return for the Brooklyn Nets after missing 12 games due to a knee injury. With less than a minute left in the game against the Bucks, Williams grabbed a key rebound and made two free throws to give the Nets the lead. Damian Lillard’s desperation shot fell short, securing a stunning 113-110 victory for the Nets.

The 23-year-old small forward, who was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2021 draft, scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds, and made a crucial block in just 19 minutes off the bench. Since being acquired by the Nets from the Grizzlies, Williams has been an important part of the team’s young core, averaging 8.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in 22 games this season.

Head coach Jordi Fernandez praised Williams for his performance, noting his energy, deflections, and big shots. With Noah Clowney out due to a back injury and Cam Johnson potentially missing time with an ankle injury, Williams could see increased playing time for the Nets, who face the 76ers and Joel Embiid next.

Cam Thomas also showed defensive improvements in the game against the Bucks, matching his season high with seven rebounds and making key plays on defense. Fernandez commended Thomas for his ball pressure, physicality, and growth since returning from injury, highlighting his importance to the team moving forward.

Maxwell Lewis suffered a left tibia fracture in his Nets debut and has been ruled out for the upcoming game against the 76ers. Clowney and Thomas are listed as questionable, while Johnson is doubtful with a right ankle sprain. Despite these injuries, the Nets were able to secure a crucial win over the Bucks, their second victory in Milwaukee this season since 2013-14.

The Nets’ victory over the Bucks was fueled by their defensive efforts, as they held a 27-8 edge in points off turnovers, their largest advantage in that category this season. With key players stepping up in the absence of injured teammates, the Nets continue to show resilience and potential as they navigate through a challenging stretch of the season and look to build momentum heading into the playoffs.
