Zelenskyy warns that 10,000 North Koreans may be recruited by Russian forces in Ukraine as he promotes ‘Victory Plan’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has raised concerns about intelligence indicating that North Korea may be preparing to send 10,000 troops to join Russian forces in Ukraine. He warned that such involvement could turn the conflict into a world war. Zelenskyy shared his “victory plan” with European Union leaders and NATO defense ministers, outlining a strategy to strengthen Ukraine and end the war with Russia by next year. The plan includes calls for increased military support from Western allies, particularly in terms of air defense systems and ammunition.

EU leaders have expressed support for Ukraine’s efforts to defend itself against Russian aggression, calling for a rapid escalation in military support. Zelenskyy also presented a five-point plan to Ukraine’s parliament, including a request for Ukraine to join NATO and use longer-range missiles provided by Western allies to target military sites in Russia. However, there has been reluctance among some NATO members to support these steps. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte reiterated the organization’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense and emphasized the unity of its 32 member countries in opposing Russian aggression.

As Ukrainian forces face ongoing challenges in repelling Russian advances, Zelenskyy has emphasized the need to bring the war back into Russia to make its citizens understand the consequences of the conflict. He has called for unity among EU leaders to support Ukraine and push for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis. Despite concerns about being dragged into a wider war with Russia, European and American leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to providing continued support to Ukraine until the conflict is resolved.

The slow pace of Western decision-making and assistance has been criticized by some leaders, including Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, who called for a more decisive approach to the crisis. While NATO declared Ukraine’s path to membership as irreversible, there is currently a holding pattern as the United States faces a presidential election. The issue of Ukraine joining NATO remains contentious, with some countries opposing the move until the conflict with Russia is resolved. Overall, there is a call for increased unity and solidarity among Western allies to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

The situation in Ukraine remains critical as Ukrainian forces continue to defend against Russian attacks, particularly in the eastern Donetsk region. The conflict has entered its third year, with Ukraine relying on Western support to resist Russian forces. As Zelenskyy engages with EU and NATO leaders to seek additional aid and support, the international community must navigate the delicate balance between providing assistance to Ukraine and avoiding a wider conflict with Russia. The coming months will be crucial in determining the direction of the conflict and the level of support that Ukraine will receive from its Western allies.
