The Casa de la Villa in Madrid was adorned with a red carpet on Tuesday, attracting curious tourists in the area. The carpet featured trivia questions about various cities, with hints distributed throughout the fabric. The event was exclusively dedicated to promoting Zaragoza, with the mayor Natalia Chueca highlighting the city as the perfect destination for the upcoming months. A collaboration agreement for tourism promotion was signed between Zaragoza and Madrid, aiming to strengthen ties between the two cities.

Zaragoza, the fourth largest city in Spain, has seen a steady increase in tourists, with over 1 million visitors in 2023, a 13% increase from the previous year. The city is located just an hour and a half away from Madrid by high-speed train, making it a convenient escape for both locals and tourists. The collaboration between Zaragoza and Madrid aims to share exhibitions, attract national tourism, and promote weekend getaways. The main target audience for Zaragoza’s tourism is from Madrid, highlighting the close connection between the two cities.

Zaragoza is setting its sights on becoming the world capital of garnacha wine by spring 2025. The grape variety originated in Aragon, making it a significant part of the city’s cultural heritage. A series of activities are planned to celebrate the garnacha, including music, shows, tastings, and gastronomy. The city also plans to commemorate the bicentenary of Goya in 2028, with events such as the Monumental Tour taking place after the festivities of the patron saint of Zaragoza in October. Additionally, a unique event at the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar will combine technology, contemporary art, and electronic music on September 25.

The collaboration between Zaragoza and Madrid aims to capitalize on the city’s rich heritage, including its three wine regions within a 90-kilometer radius, namely Calatayud, Cariñena, and Campo de Borja. With a focus on promoting local culture and attracting visitors, Zaragoza has seen a rise in international tourists, reaching 21% of total visitors. With a strong emphasis on the city’s historical and cultural attractions, Zaragoza aims to position itself as a desirable destination for future travelers, highlighting its unique offerings such as the garnacha wine experience and upcoming events like the Monumental Tour and the fusion of technology and art at the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar.

The event at Casa de la Villa in Madrid showcased the collaboration between Zaragoza and Madrid, with the mayors of both cities signing agreements to promote tourism and cultural exchanges. The partnership aims to foster closer ties between the two cities, offering reciprocal tourism opportunities and cross-promotion of events and attractions. With a focus on shared experiences and mutual benefits, the collaboration between Zaragoza and Madrid highlights the importance of cultural exchange and cooperation in promoting tourism and encouraging visitors to explore the unique offerings of both cities.
