Zac Jones returns to Rangers lineup following three-game absence from scratches

The New York Rangers made changes to their lineup by reinserting defenseman Zac Jones after he was a healthy scratch for three games. Rookie Victor Mancini was the player who came out of the lineup to make room for Jones. Coach Peter Laviolette emphasized that decisions on who to play are not always based on performance, but also on factors like team winning streaks or players who have elevated their play. Despite being scratched, Laviolette expressed confidence in Jones and acknowledged that players naturally want to be on the ice.

Ryan Lindgren’s return from injury forced the Rangers to adjust their defense pairs, resulting in Jones being taken out of the lineup. Chad Ruhwedel, who was waived and sent to AHL Hartford, replaced Jones against the Maple Leafs. Lindgren teamed up with Mancini upon his return, but the pair struggled against the Panthers. In practice, Lindgren skated with Jacob Trouba while Jones played with Braden Schneider, allowing Schneider to play on his natural right side. Laviolette praised Jones’ play, highlighting the need to continuously coach and teach young players like him.

Goaltender Jonathan Quick started for the Rangers against the Ducks, making 32 saves and allowing one goal in his second start of the season. Lindgren, who scored in the previous game, continues to wear a full face shield following jaw surgery. Laviolette acknowledged the challenges Lindgren faces in adjusting to the protective gear but emphasized the importance of getting him game time to regain his form after missing extended time due to injury. Brennan Othmann, playing in Hartford, is expected to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a lower-body injury.

Despite the lineup changes and adjustments, the Rangers were able to secure a 2-1 win over the Ducks. Laviolette remains focused on developing young players like Jones, recognizing that there will be ups and downs in their performance. With Lindgren back on the ice, the Rangers are looking to solidify their defensive pairs and continue building chemistry among the players. Quick’s strong performance in goal provides stability for the team as they navigate injuries and lineup changes.

Lindgren’s presence on the ice has been a positive aspect for the Rangers, as he continues to contribute both offensively and defensively. Laviolette’s emphasis on giving players like Jones opportunities to improve and develop highlights the coaching staff’s commitment to nurturing young talent. With Othmann’s injury, the Rangers will need to rely on their depth and resilience to overcome challenges in their lineup. As the season progresses, the Rangers will look to build on their recent success and continue to grow as a team under Laviolette’s guidance.
