In Konyaaltı Sahili, a 19-year-old named Bedirhan Kiril ignored waves reaching up to 4 meters high due to a storm and entered the sea. Concerned bystanders noticed the young man being swept out to sea and alerted the police.
Diving instructor Ibrahim Sunduvaç, who was at the beach at the time, put on a life jacket and entered the sea to rescue the young man. Meanwhile, the coast guard arrived on the scene and sent an unmanned remote-controlled lifeguard to pull Kiril and Sunduvaç back to shore.
After receiving initial treatment at the beach, the young man was taken to Antalya Training and Research Hospital by ambulance. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being cautious around the sea, especially during times of inclement weather.
Authorities praised the quick thinking and bravery of both the bystanders who alerted the police and the diving instructor who risked his life to save Kiril. The use of technology, such as the unmanned lifeguard, also played a crucial role in the successful rescue operation.
Kiril’s family expressed gratitude for the efforts of those involved in the rescue and thanked the medical staff at the hospital for their care. They emphasized the need for increased awareness and caution when engaging in water activities, particularly when faced with adverse weather conditions.
The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the sea and the importance of taking safety measures while enjoying water-related activities. It also highlights the importance of having trained professionals and advanced technology available to respond to emergencies effectively and save lives.
