Authorities in Seminole County, Florida believe they have discovered the body of Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas, a 31-year-old woman who was carjacked at gunpoint in a harrowing incident captured on video. The carjacking occurred when a gunman forced his way into De Aguasvivas’ vehicle at a red light, with the entire ordeal unfolding in front of witnesses who recorded the incident on their cellphones. The gunman, described as wearing a black hoodie and ski mask, was armed with what appeared to be an automatic handgun. Authorities believe the suspect had exited a green Acura that was following De Aguasvivas’ vehicle.
After the carjacking, De Aguasvivas made a U-turn and the Acura followed her. Authorities speculate that the suspects ordered her to turn around and head towards a new construction area that they were familiar with. Approximately an hour and 45 minutes after the carjacking, deputies responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in the area. The vehicle was so damaged that positive identification could not be made, but authorities believe a body found inside is De Aguasvivas. DNA and dental records will be used to confirm the victim’s identity, and shell casings from a gun were also found at the scene.
Sheriff Dennis Lemma stated that this was not a random incident, and the suspects appeared to know who they were following. Before the carjacking, De Aguasvivas had called her husband to report that someone had rammed the back of her vehicle and was following her. Although her husband advised her not to stop anywhere, neither of them called 911. Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the crime, as De Aguasvivas and her husband have no criminal history in the United States. The couple is associated with two businesses, a barber shop and a beauty salon, and the husband indicated that De Aguasvivas was in central Florida to visit family.
De Aguasvivas, who is from Homestead in Miami-Dade County, left South Florida on the day of the carjacking. She briefly stopped at a Shell gas station in Seminole County before continuing her journey. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect’s green Acura to come forward and help with the investigation. The sheriff acknowledged that there are many unanswered questions surrounding the tragic event, such as why De Aguasvivas and her husband did not call 911 or why she stopped at the red light. Despite the uncertainties, authorities are working diligently to piece together the sequence of events leading up to De Aguasvivas’ untimely death.
