What you need to know about the official start of early voting in NYC

Early voting in New York begins on Saturday at 8 a.m., allowing voters to participate in the 2024 presidential race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Harris currently holds a significant lead over Trump in New York City, but Trump is showing strength in the suburbs, narrowing the gap in the polls. In addition to the presidential race, voters will also be deciding on various congressional and state legislature races, as well as six ballot proposals on Nov. 5.

The early voting period runs from Oct. 26 to Nov. 3, with varying hours depending on the day. Voters can easily find their polling place by visiting the Board of Elections website at findmypollsite.vote.nyc. It is important for voters to confirm their early polling site as it may differ from their Election Day polling location. The voter registration deadline is approaching on Saturday, with options to register either by mail or online at e-register.vote.nyc.

Registered voters do not need to show ID to vote, except in cases where identification was not provided during registration. In these cases, voters must show a New York ID when voting for the first time. Acceptable forms of identification include a current and valid photo ID or a government document showing their name and address. First-time voters who have not provided ID can still vote by affidavit ballot, but not through the scanner at the polling site.

In addition to the presidential race, voters will also have the opportunity to participate in US House, Senate, New York Assembly, and state Senate races. The ballot will also include six proposals, including one seeking to enshrine abortion protections in the state constitution. The results of these races and proposals will have a significant impact on the future of New York and its residents. It is important for voters to educate themselves on the candidates and issues at hand to make informed decisions during the early voting period.

Early voting offers New Yorkers an opportunity to have their voice heard in shaping the future of their city and state. With the presidential race heating up and various critical races on the ballot, every vote counts. Taking advantage of early voting allows residents to cast their ballot at a time that is convenient for them, without the stress of waiting in long lines on Election Day. By participating in early voting, voters can play a vital role in shaping the outcome of the 2024 elections and ensuring that their voices are heard.
