Hakkari Governor Ali Çelik directed a gradual reopening for resettlement of the villages in the district of Çukurca, including Tekevler, Işıklı, Çayırlı, Uzundere, Dedeköy, Çağlayan, Karasu, Çınarlı, Kavuşak, Maden, Kayalık, and Kurudere. The process has begun to allow the residents to return to their homes in these villages and hamlets.
Çukurca District Governor Mert Kumcu, along with Mayor Nazmi Demir, District Police Chief Adem Köpük, District Gendarmerie Commander Major Engin Çağlayan, District Special Operations Commander Muhammet Öcal, and District Special Administration Director Abdulkuddus Tunç, visited the villages of Işıklı, Kavaklı, and Kurudere. These villages had been evacuated for security reasons since 1995, and the officials conducted inspections to assess the situation and prepare for the residents’ return.
The decision to reopen these villages and hamlets for resettlement comes as a part of efforts to restore normalcy and provide support to the residents who were displaced years ago due to security concerns. The authorities are working on creating a safe and conducive environment for the residents to return to their homes and resume their regular lives in their villages.
