The University of Saskatchewan’s Be What the World Needs Campaign has raised over $428 million towards its $500 million goal. The funds raised will be used to support four main areas: leading critical research, supporting Indigenous achievement, focusing on student success, and creating visionary spaces. The money will help increase the number of endowed research chairs, provide funding for graduate and undergraduate research, create scholarships and bursaries for Indigenous students, support new programming, and reduce barriers to post-secondary education. Additionally, the campaign will create additional scholarships and bursaries, fund technology supports, mentorship programming, and upgrade libraries, classrooms, and labs across several campuses.

There is one year left in the campaign, and the university has received donations from over 18,000 alumni, 1,400 corporations, 5,000 individuals, and 400 foundations. The university’s president, Peter Stoicheff, expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized the need for champions to help reach the $500 million goal. One of the projects funded by the campaign is a $90 million capital project to transform the engineering building. Faculty and staff at the university stress the importance of creating comfortable spaces for students to work, collaborate, and learn from each other, emphasizing that engineering is a collaborative effort that requires a supportive environment.
