UK weather forecast: Brits set for spring sunshine and 16C temperatures at long last

The recent weather in the UK, particularly over the Easter weekend, saw significant rainfalls in many areas, with 12mm falling across the Scottish Highlands. However, new weather maps predict a change in the weather, with sunny days reaching 16C temperatures on the horizon. Despite the damp conditions of the Easter weekend, particularly in southern England, the coming week is expected to bring warmer weather, with temperatures of 16C forecast for Greater London and surrounding areas by Friday. This shift signifies a significant contrast to the chilly temperatures observed last weekend in places such as Herefordshire and Usk.

Friday and the days leading up to it are expected to see an improvement in weather conditions, with temperatures peaking at 16C in certain areas, notably in Norfolk, Lincolnshire, parts of the Midlands, and as far north as Ripon in North Yorkshire. However, April is likely to continue being a wet month, with scattered showers expected both before and after Friday. The Met Office forecasts continuing unsettled weather with widespread rain and possibly strong winds in some areas, particularly in the west and south. Later in the period, the focus of rain may shift to the northwest, while temperatures are expected to remain above average, although possibly tempered by cloud cover and precipitation.

Easter Sunday and Saturday saw heavy rain in many parts of the UK, with the Scottish Highlands, the Isles of Scilly, and rural Cumbria all experiencing significant rainfall. Despite the wet start to April, the upcoming week shows promise for drier and sunnier weather, ultimately leading to warmer temperatures. The wet conditions before Friday may be followed by more settled weather moving in from the southeast, while the focus of rain shifts to the northwest. These weather patterns coincide with a noticeable increase in temperatures, reaching as high as 16C by the end of the week, creating a more favorable environment for outdoor activities and the enjoyment of spring.

Overall, the recent wet weather that characterized the Easter weekend seems to be making way for a more pleasant week ahead in the UK. The change in weather is expected to bring warmer temperatures and clearer skies, offering a respite from the rainy start to April. While showers and unsettled conditions may persist before and after Friday, the general trend is towards more settled weather and milder temperatures. This shift in weather patterns promises a brighter outlook for the first week back after the Easter holiday, providing an opportunity for Brits to enjoy the outdoors and embrace the arrival of spring after a damp start to the season.
