Frederick Richard, Brody Malone, Paul Juda, Asher Hong, and Stephen Nedoroscik made history in gymnastics on Monday by helping the U.S. men’s team win a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This was the first Olympic team medal for the U.S. men since 2008, with Japan and China taking the gold and silver medals, respectively. The American team showcased their support for each other throughout the competition, celebrating each twist and flip with enthusiasm. The U.S. men’s victory was emotional, with many team members breaking down in tears upon winning the bronze. This achievement came after a twenty-year period during which the U.S. men’s team had only achieved three team medals.

The U.S. men’s team demonstrated exceptional performances in the first five rotations, setting themselves up for a chance at the bronze. However, they faced a challenging final rotation on the pommel horse, which could make or break their medal hopes. Stephen Nedoroscik, who made the Olympic team due to his strength in this event, had a nerve-wracking wait before clinching the bronze with his performance in the final rotation. The team’s early momentum was evident, with notable improvements in scores from the qualifying round, where they finished fifth. Each member played a crucial role in contributing to the team’s success, with Paul Juda delivering a flawless vault that set the tone for their performance.

The crowd at Paris’ Bercy Arena erupted in chants of “USA” as Asher Hong successfully sailed through parallel bars, moving the team into the second spot heading into the high bar rotation. Frederick Richard stood out throughout the final, delivering a difficult routine on high bar that would have won a silver medal at the previous year’s world championships. Richard’s floor routine, inspired by breakdancing, showcased his versatility and skill, and he will compete alongside Paul Juda in the all-around final. Meanwhile, Stephen Nedoroscik has his sights set on gold in the pommel horse final scheduled for Saturday.

The athletes expressed their pride in representing the United States on the Olympic stage, with Brody Malone emphasizing the incredible feeling of wearing the USA on their chest. The U.S. national all-around champion credited the support of his teammates and the entire country for motivating them to perform at their best. The celebration of the U.S. men’s team’s bronze medal win was reminiscent of the rowdiest college gymnastics meets, highlighting their camaraderie and unity in pursuit of their shared goal. Despite the challenges faced on the road to the podium, the U.S. men’s team proved their mettle and etched their names in gymnastics history with their historic achievement at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
