Two days of rain by the storm ‘Pierrick’ and, once again, heat

The week will start with two days of influence from the storm Pierrick, which will bring rain, snow, strong winds, and rough seas, especially in the northern part of the peninsula. However, starting on Wednesday, high pressure will dominate, bringing stable and warm weather for the season to most of the country. Rain will be limited to the northern part of the peninsula from Wednesday onwards, with temperatures decreasing on Monday and Tuesday before gradually rising again from Wednesday. By the second half of the week, temperatures will be high for the season, with temperatures exceeding 25°C in many areas and even reaching 30°C in some places.

Pierrick is a new deep storm of high impact that was named on Sunday by Météo-France, the French Meteorological Service. It is the 16th of this naming season for the southwest European group, which includes Spain. This number matches the total for the entire previous season, 2022-2023, which was the busiest since naming began in 2017. On Monday, a front associated with this storm is causing yellow-level alerts for wind, rain, snow, rough seas, and coastal flooding in various regions of Spain. Rain is expected in the Cantabrian region and the Pyrenees, extending to other northern and western areas of the peninsula, with snow levels dropping to 900-1,000 meters and strong winds causing rough sea conditions.

Temperatures will drop across the country, with significant decreases expected in the east and in the Balearic Islands on Tuesday. This will lead to cooler weather for the season, with maximum temperatures below 15°C in many northern areas. Rain will gradually clear as the front moves across the peninsula, with thunderstorms in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. Showers are also expected in the Cantabrian region, the Pyrenees, and the Ebro Valley, with snowfall at 800-1,000 meters gradually rising to 1,300-1,500 meters. Strong winds will continue in the east and in the Balearic Islands, with significant sea conditions along the northern coasts and parts of the Catalan coast.

Wednesday will see a significant change in weather as high pressure will dominate over southern France, blocking storm systems from reaching Spain. Only a localized storm in the Mediterranean may bring showers to the Balearic Islands, with continued strong winds in the northeastern regions and in the Balearic Islands. Higher temperatures are expected to spread across the country, reaching over 18°C in central, eastern, and southern regions, and up to 25°C in the Mediterranean. Temperature will continue to rise through the week, with clear skies and no rain in most parts of Spain.

The second half of the week will see mainly clear skies and warm temperatures, with highs exceeding 25°C in many areas, especially over the weekend. Temperatures may reach 30°C on Saturday and Sunday in parts of northern Spain and the valleys of the Ebro and Guadiana rivers. The east and south of the peninsula could see temperatures over 30°C as well. This will be the second warm spell of the month, following 14 temperature records being broken over the weekend. In the Canary Islands, rain is expected on Monday and Tuesday in the mountainous north, followed by dry and warm weather with a noticeable temperature rise starting on Wednesday.
