Trump’s former GOP rival lands new position following unsuccessful 2024 presidential campaign

Nikki Haley, who was the final rival to former President Trump in the Republican nomination race, has joined the Hudson Institute, a leading conservative think tank focused on international affairs and national security. After ending her White House bid, Haley brings her proven leadership in both foreign and domestic policy to the Institute, where she will serve as the Walter P. Stern Chair. During her presidential campaign, Haley advocated for a muscular U.S. foreign policy to address global conflicts and tensions, offering a contrast with Trump’s America First agenda.

In debates with fellow candidate Vivek Ramanswamy, an advocate of Trump’s America First philosophy, Haley emphasized the importance of calling out enemies and supporting alliances to ensure global security. Hudson Institute President and CEO John P. Walters praised Haley’s effective leadership and commitment to defending American values, stating that she is a courageous and insightful policymaker. Haley received the Hudson Institute’s global leadership award in 2018 during her time as U.N. ambassador, demonstrating her dedication to promoting freedom and prosperity.

Haley launched her presidential campaign in February of last year, becoming the first major candidate to challenge Trump, who had announced his candidacy three months earlier. Despite being the final rival to Trump, Haley suspended her White House bid on March 6 after Trump’s success on Super Tuesday. While exiting the nomination race, Haley made it clear that she will continue speaking out about issues she believes in, emphasizing the importance of using her voice to advocate for her principles.

Although Haley has not endorsed Trump, she stated that it is up to him to earn the support of those in their party and beyond who did not back him during the campaign. Haley’s decision not to endorse Trump reflects her commitment to making a stand for her beliefs and values. As she joins the Hudson Institute, Haley’s focus will be on defending the principles that make America a great nation and supporting initiatives that promote a secure, free, and prosperous future for all Americans.

Haley’s role at the Hudson Institute as the Walter P. Stern Chair is a significant one, as she follows in the footsteps of a former chair instrumental in establishing the Institute’s reputation as a respected research organization. With her experience as former South Carolina governor and U.N. ambassador, Haley brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new position, where she will continue to advocate for American security and prosperity. As she embarks on this new chapter, Haley’s legacy of leadership and dedication to defending American values remains a cornerstone of her work at the Hudson Institute.
