Trump is eager to have four debates with Biden on Fox and NBC.

Former President Donald Trump has accepted an invitation for a fourth presidential debate hosted by NBC, adding to the lineup of debates the GOP nominee has been pushing for. Trump stated that he is willing to debate President Joe Biden in an event broadcasted on NBC and Telemundo, emphasizing the importance of winning with the Hispanic community. However, the date for the NBC debate has not been provided, and Biden has not publicly accepted the invitation.

Trump and Biden had previously agreed to two debates leading up to the November election, one on CNN moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bush in June and another on ABC moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis in September. Biden had challenged Trump to debate in a video earlier in the week, and Trump accepted the request, and later pushed for additional debates, including one on Fox News hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum that Biden had not agreed to.

In response to Trump’s assertions about additional debates, Biden’s campaign spokesperson, Jen O’Malley Dillon, criticized Trump for playing games with debates in the past and breaking campaign rules. The Biden campaign also called for limiting the outlets that host debates to those that had previously hosted primary debates, to avoid any bias or conflicts. The ongoing debate negotiations highlight the potential for clashes between the two camps leading up to the election.

Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son of the late Democratic candidate Robert F. Kennedy, is polling just below the necessary threshold of 15% in national polls to participate in the debates. CNN and ABC’s debate rules require candidates to meet this threshold and have their names on enough state ballots to potentially win the necessary electoral votes. Kennedy’s polling numbers add an interesting twist to the debate participation criteria.

The debates between Trump and Biden have become a focal point of the election campaign, with both candidates eager to showcase their strengths and challenge each other’s positions. Trump’s acceptance of the NBC debate invitation adds another layer of complexity to the debate schedule, as Biden has not yet confirmed his participation. The upcoming debates will likely be pivotal moments in the campaign, shaping voters’ perceptions and influencing the final outcome of the election.

Overall, the ongoing debate negotiations underscore the high stakes of the 2020 election, with both candidates vying for the opportunity to present their platforms and engage in direct confrontations. The potential for additional debates and the involvement of independent candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. add intrigue to the debate process, highlighting the dynamic nature of the electoral race. As the election approaches, voters will be closely watching the debates to assess the candidates’ positions and make informed decisions at the ballot box.
