Trump confirms participation in Fox debate, Harris maintains ABC plan

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has agreed to a debate with presumptive Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris on Fox News, scheduled for September 4th. The debate was originally set to be against Joe Biden on ABC, but Trump claims it has been terminated due to his ongoing litigation with ABC Network and George Slopadopoulos. Trump announced that the debate would be held in Pennsylvania, with Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum as moderators and a full arena audience. However, the Harris campaign maintains that they will stick to the originally planned ABC News debate on September 10th, accusing Trump of playing games and being afraid to face off against Harris.

The Harris campaign’s communication director, Michael Tyler, criticized Trump for trying to back out of the ABC News debate and urged him to honor his previous commitment. Tyler stated that Harris will be present for the debate on September 10th, and the campaign is open to discussing additional debates after that one takes place. Trump and Biden had initially agreed to two presidential debates, with the first already having taken place in June and the second scheduled for September 10th. Harris has accused Trump of reneging on his agreement to the September 10th debate, stating that she is ready to face him on the national stage.

Following Biden’s decision to end his reelection bid after a poor performance in the first debate, Harris announced her candidacy and received the support of a majority of delegates needed to secure the Democratic nomination. The Democratic National Convention will be held in August, and a majority of Democratic delegates have already voted to select Harris as the party’s nominee for president. This solidifies her position as the Democratic candidate heading into the November election. Trump’s decision to agree to a debate with Harris on Fox News comes amidst ongoing legal battles with ABC Network, creating uncertainty around the originally scheduled debate. The Harris campaign remains committed to the ABC News debate on September 10th and challenges Trump to uphold his commitment to that event.
