Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are set to have their first debate as Election Day approaches. The race has changed since the last debate between Trump and President Biden. The debate, hosted by ABC News at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, may be the only time Trump and Harris debate each other. There was uncertainty surrounding the debate date and terms but it has been confirmed for September 10. Trump initially hinted at not participating, but eventually agreed to the debate.

The 90-minute debate will be moderated by ABC anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis, without an audience and two commercial breaks. The candidates will have specific time limits to answer questions and for rebuttals, along with rules prohibiting props or pre-written notes. Microphones will only be live when the candidate is speaking, which was a point of contention between the two campaigns. Harris expressed concerns about the format but agreed not to jeopardize the debate. Both candidates are preparing their strategies ahead of the debate while campaigning in battleground states. Trump is reviewing policy positions and engaging with media, while Harris had to adjust her strategy after learning about the microphone restrictions.

Trump is focusing on his policy platforms and engaging with voters and media as part of his preparations for the debate. He believes he has been preparing for this moment all his life. Harris traveled to Pittsburgh to prepare for the debate and her team has had to rethink their strategy due to the microphone restrictions. Despite being praised for her debate skills by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, facing Trump in a debate is seen as a challenging task due to his ability to turn any format into a show about him. The debate will air on CBS at 9 p.m. ET on September 10, with coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET.

Overall, the upcoming debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is significant as it will be their first time facing off on the debate stage. The debate structure includes rules such as specific time limits for responses, microphone restrictions, and no props or pre-written notes allowed. Both candidates are preparing for the debate by reviewing policy positions and engaging with media. Harris had to adjust her strategy after learning about the microphone restrictions. The debate will air on CBS on September 10, with coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET.
