With the Easter Bank Holiday weekend approaching, the UK is expected to see around 14 million journeys taking place. Brits are advised to plan ahead and take precautions due to potential disruptions caused by factors such as Storm Nelson and engineering works. The roads are predicted to be extremely busy, with motorways facing congestion and delays. Roadside assistance services like the RAC have issued warnings to motorists, urging them to be prepared for longer travel times.

It is estimated that Thursday afternoon will be the busiest time, with many individuals starting their journeys early to maximize the four-day weekend. The RAC, in collaboration with travel update service Inrix, predicts around 14 million separate journeys and 11 million overnight stays will occur over the Easter weekend. Weather is another concern, as changing road conditions due to rain could pose risks to drivers. Airports are expected to be crowded, and rail routes may face disruption due to engineering works.

Popular routes such as the M25, A303, and M5 are anticipated to experience heavy traffic, potentially causing delays for travelers. Additionally, rail passengers should check for any closures or service changes, as major routes like the West Coast Main Line may be affected. Airports like Manchester and Glasgow are preparing for increased passenger traffic, with EasyJet forecasting record numbers for this Easter. Storm Nelson in Europe could impact flights, and ports like Dover are expected to see high volumes of vehicles.

Road closures and delays may occur during the Easter weekend, affecting travel by both land and sea. Network Rail has advised train passengers to check for any service updates, while ports like Dover are implementing stringent border controls following recent events. Ferries could experience cancellations and delays, potentially leading to longer waiting times for travelers. Eurotunnel is increasing shuttles and staff to manage the expected high numbers of passengers. In case of disruptions, it’s recommended to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel.
