Beloved radio host Mike Lynch, known for his work with the Trail Blazers, recently announced his retirement due to a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Lynch, who is 34 years old, received the diagnosis on January 2nd and expressed his gratitude to his fans, The Fan radio station, and the Trail Blazers for supporting him throughout his career. He shared the news on social media and asked for patience as he navigates this challenging time.

Lynch, a Syracuse graduate, had been with 1080 The Fan in Portland for 11 years before joining the Trail Blazers in 2022. Working with the team was a dream job for him, and he built a strong following in the community. In light of his diagnosis, his wife, Ashley, set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of his treatment. Lynch, who has two children, aged 11 and 15, had to leave his job with the Blazers and is now facing a series of challenges related to his health.

Since his diagnosis, Lynch has been undergoing treatment to slow the progression of ALS and prolong his life. He now requires specialized equipment in his home, such as a stairlift and movement assistance devices, to help him with daily activities. Lynch and his family are also hoping to gain acceptance into a medical trial in the hopes of finding a cure for the disease. The GoFundMe page launched by his wife aims to provide financial support for these medical expenses and ongoing care.

The news of Lynch’s diagnosis was met with an outpouring of support from fans, colleagues, and the Trail Blazers community. Lynch expressed his devastation and gratitude for the support he has received over the years. Despite the challenges he is facing, he remains optimistic about the future and is grateful for the love and assistance he has received during this difficult time.

As Lynch navigates this new chapter in his life, he is focused on his family and his health. While ALS is a progressive and incurable disease, Lynch is determined to fight against it with the support of his loved ones and the medical community. His openness about his diagnosis has helped raise awareness about ALS and the challenges faced by individuals living with the disease.

In light of Lynch’s retirement and health struggles, the Trail Blazers community continues to stand by him and offer their support. Lynch’s impact on the team and the broader Portland community is evident in the outpouring of love and encouragement he has received. As he faces the road ahead, Lynch is grateful for the opportunity to have shared his passion for radio and sports with his listeners and fans, and he remains hopeful for the future despite the challenges he is currently facing.
