The Earthquake Culture Museum, opened 20 years ago in Sakarya with the aim of raising awareness about earthquakes, reflects the bitter memories of the August 17, 1999 Marmara Earthquake. The museum attracts attention with its collapsed walls, tilted columns, and broken beams that resemble a collapsed building.

Visitors can experience the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred at 03:02 on August 17, 1999, for 45 seconds through a simulation at the museum. In collaboration with AFAD and the National Education Directorate, the museum provides educational information to visitors about what to do during and after an earthquake.

The museum has hosted over 1 million visitors so far and also features glass crystals with the names of those who lost their lives in disasters. The aim of the museum is to create awareness and educate people about the importance of being prepared for earthquakes and other natural disasters.

The museum serves as a place of remembrance for the victims of the Marmara Earthquake and aims to teach visitors how to protect themselves and others during such disasters. Through simulations and educational materials, visitors can immerse themselves in the experience of an earthquake and learn about the necessary precautions to take in the event of such a disaster.

By showcasing the devastating effects of earthquakes and the importance of disaster preparedness, the Earthquake Culture Museum in Sakarya continues to play a crucial role in raising awareness and educating the public. Through its exhibits and educational programs, the museum serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for natural disasters and the need for collective action to mitigate their impact.

Overall, the Earthquake Culture Museum stands as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of natural disasters, serving as a beacon of hope and knowledge for future generations. It serves as a reminder of the need for solidarity and preparedness in the face of adversity, while also honoring the memories of those who lost their lives in the Marmara Earthquake and other disasters.
