Brisbane offers a variety of epic playgrounds for kids to enjoy, providing free active fun that is far more exciting than traditional swings and see-saws. These playgrounds offer a great way to spend school holidays without spending any money. Additionally, there are cupcake decorating workshops at the Komo, where kids can make their own sweet treats for free. For those interested in theatre, La Boite is currently showing a revival of Patrick Marber’s play “Closer,” a darkly funny portrayal of desire and betrayal in 1990s London.

For dance enthusiasts, Riverdance 25 is a must-see performance at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. This Irish dancing spectacular has been captivating audiences around the world since the 1990s, and continues to be a crowd favorite. Queensland Theatre is also showcasing “37,” a comedic take on AFL and racism, exploring the story of an underdog AFL team whose fortunes change with the addition of two Indigenous cousins to their ranks. The film “Robot Dreams,” nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, offers a family-friendly experience at cinemas.

Music lovers can look forward to a solo performance by cello master Stjepan Hauser at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, featuring a range of musical renditions from Lady Gaga to Shostakovich. The NRL Telstra Premiership will also feature a game between the Brisbane Broncos and the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium, providing sports fans with an exciting match-up to enjoy. Additionally, the International Cake Show organized by the Australian Cake Artists and Decorators Association will showcase cake decorating competitions, workshops, masterclasses, and more at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Film enthusiasts can experience “The Princess Bride in Concert,” where classical guitar superstar Slava Grigoryan will join the Queensland Pops Orchestra to perform the enchanting music score by Mark Knopfler while the film plays. Families can visit the HOTA Children’s Gallery to explore “Kingdom of Kindness,” an exhibition by artist Abdul Abdullah featuring friendly rock characters and interactive activities for all ages. Lastly, the ballet “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Queensland Ballet and the Royal New Zealand Ballet brings Shakespeare’s comedic tale to life through a visual and aural feast at the Playhouse, QPAC.
