The Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service shared footage of the destruction caused by the tornado, including an enormous uprooted tree that partially destroyed a house. Residents were shocked to witness the funnel cloud in an area not accustomed to tornadic activity.
Videos posted on social media captured the dramatic scene in Gaithersburg, with eyewitnesses sharing their experiences of the storm. One resident described the eerie color of the sky before the tornado struck, causing a shaking sensation in the foundation of their home. Storm chaser Mark Monis detailed his experience witnessing the twister while inside his car, expressing gratitude that the storm was not more severe. The tornado caused damage to at least four houses in Montgomery County, with a total of 88 weather-related incidents reported during the storm. Fire crews were also assessing storm damage in other areas, including Baltimore County.
In Ohio, an emergency shelter was opened in Frazeysburg following reports of a tornado causing widespread damage. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries in the village as a result of the storm. The local sheriff’s office classified the tornado as the cause of the destruction.
