Ankara West Republic Attorney General’s Office stated in a written statement that one of the two children who were trapped in an elevator in an apartment building in Fevzi Çakmak Neighborhood, B.S.B, lost his life after falling into the shaft during the rescue operation by the fire brigade teams.
The statement mentioned that in the expert report conducted as part of the investigation, it was determined that fire brigade members E.A, B.Y, and B.B were at fault. Following the Attorney General’s letter dated July 25, the Ankara Governor’s Office granted permission for an investigation into the individuals in question, who then objected to this decision.
Upon the rejection of their objection, it was reported that the 3 fire brigade members were taken into custody. The suspects were then arrested by the Ankara West Duty Criminal Court on charges of “causing death and injury by negligence” and taken to the courthouse.
The statement emphasized that the investigation into the incident was being conducted with diligence. The authorities assured that the case was being handled carefully and thoroughly to ensure that justice is served for the tragic loss of life that occurred in the elevator accident.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and regulation of elevators in buildings, prompting further discussions on the importance of maintenance and inspection to prevent such accidents in the future. The tragic loss of the child has led to public outcry and calls for accountability for those responsible for ensuring the safety of residents in buildings where such incidents occur.
The decision to arrest the fire brigade members has sparked controversy, with some questioning whether they were solely responsible for the accident or if there were other factors at play. The authorities have promised a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and to hold those accountable for any negligence that may have contributed to the tragic outcome.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding safety standards in all aspects of building infrastructure, including elevators, to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. The community is looking for answers and justice for the young victim, while also pushing for measures to be implemented to enhance safety measures in buildings across the region.
