Three young girls, aged 12 and 13, were arrested in Washington DC for the brutal attack and murder of a disabled man named Reggie Brown in 2023. The incident, which was caught on camera, showed the girls chasing Brown through an alley, stomping him to death, and using his own belt to beat him. The group reportedly laughed as Brown bled from his head, with one of the girls exclaiming, “He’s leaking!” Brown, who was 64 years old and disabled with mental health issues, was found dead on the street suffering from blunt force trauma injuries.
Detective Harry Singleton testified that a man in his early 20s initiated the attack on Brown by grabbing him and throwing him against a wall. When the girls happened to walk by, one of them asked if she could fight him, to which the man agreed. The 12-year-old girl then pulled Brown off the fence and used his belt against him, filming the beating on her cellphone. Despite not knowing Brown personally, investigators are looking into whether the stranger who started the attack had any connection to him.
Following the murder of Brown, one of the 13-year-old girls was taken into custody by court order, while the other two girls remained on the loose. However, the 12-year-old girl was shot in her apartment that same night and suffered a non-life-threatening injury. It is unclear whether the gunfire came from inside or outside the apartment, but witnesses reported seeing two individuals escape through a broken window. The girls were later arrested, with none of them having prior arrests but all having truancy issues, with one of the teenagers not attending a single day of class in 2024.
The family of Reggie Brown expressed shock and grief over his senseless murder, describing him as a well-known member of the community who had lived in the area for 64 years. One of Brown’s nieces stated that he did not deserve what happened to him and emphasized the need for the perpetrators to be held accountable for their actions.
