Napoli on the Road, located in London, has been crowned the best pizzeria in Europe in 2024 according to the prestigious pizza guide 50 Top Pizza. Michele Pascarella, the owner of the winning pizzeria, was also awarded the title of best pizza maker in the world in 2023. In second place is Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona, run by Rafa Panatieri and Jorge Sastre, who held the top spot in the ranking last year. Via Toledo Enopizzeria in Vienna, owned by Francesco Calò, takes third place and also receives the award for pizza of the year with their creation pizza de nero. 50 Kalò in London, owned by Ciro Salvo, comes in fourth place, and Baldoria in Madrid, owned by Ciro Cristiano, takes fifth place and is also awarded the special prize for best pasta proposal.
The sixth spot goes to Pizza Zulu in Fürth, Germany, owned by Gaspare Squitieri; the seventh place is for IMperfetto in Puteaux, France, run by Simone Lombardi and pizzaiolo Tonino Cogliano, who also wins the award for best pizza maker of the year; and the eighth place is for nNea in Amsterdam, owned by Vincenzo Onnembo. La Balmesina in Barcelona, owned by Massimo Morbi and Alessandro Zangrossi, takes ninth place, and the tenth spot goes to Fratelli Figurato, the project of brothers Riccardo and Vittorio Figurato, in Madrid. Other notable mentions among the top 50 pizzerias include Demaio in Bilbao, Gasparic in Girona, and Infraganti in Alicante.
Some special awards were also given out, such as the new entry of the year which went to Stile Napoletano in Chester, England. The Green Oven 2024 award, which recognizes sustainability efforts, was given to Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona, Bæst in Copenhagen, and MO de Movimiento in Madrid. The organizers of the initiative, Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro, and Albert Sapere, explain that it is a great time for pizza in Europe, leading to an increase in the number of establishments now reaching 184, all dedicated to perfecting one of the most popular dishes in the world. The top 20 pizzerias in 50 Top Pizza Europe also make it to the list of the 100 Best Pizzerias in the World, with the global selection event set to take place on September 10th at the Teatro Mercadante in Naples.
The awards ceremony in Madrid coincides with the Pizza Week-Spain Edition 2024 initiative, in collaboration with the Italian product distribution company Mammafiore. This event, taking place from May 11th to 18th, will feature a series of pizza-related events at the best independent pizzerias in Spain as well as 10 chains in the industry, totaling over a hundred participating establishments.
