Theresa Nist, 70, was seen wearing her custom Neil Lane diamond wedding ring after her husband, Gerry Turner, 72, filed for divorce just three months after their televised wedding. Theresa admitted during an appearance on Good Morning America that she will eventually have to return the ring as part of their agreement with ABC. Despite the sadness of having to part with the ring, Theresa and Gerry explained that their long-distance living situation was the main reason behind their decision to end their marriage. Gerry filed for divorce citing an “irretrievable breakdown” of their marriage and they have an existing prenuptial agreement in place.
Even though the former Golden Bachelor couple never lived together, they had dreams of doing so one day in South Carolina. Gerry expressed that the possibility of living in South Carolina was a sign of fate, as it would help in reconciling their families and where to live. Theresa also shared the vision of purchasing a large home in the future so that their adult children and grandchildren could feel comfortable visiting. The couple met and fell in love on the first season of The Golden Bachelor and got engaged during the show’s finale in November 2023. They got married on January 4, 2024, in front of ABC cameras, marking the second marriage for both of them.
Gerry and Theresa both talked about moving to South Carolina and how it would solve the issue of compromising on living arrangements and reconciling their families. Despite their love for each other and dedication to their families, they mutually agreed that it was time to dissolve their marriage due to their living situation. Gerry mentioned that their conversations mostly revolved around the happiness of each other and their commitment to their families. Gerry was previously married to his high school sweetheart, Toni, for 43 years before her passing in 2017, while Theresa was married to her high school boyfriend, Billy, for 42 years before his death in 2014.
The couple agreed that living apart was the best decision for their happiness and that they both had the best interests of each other in mind. Although Theresa admitted that giving back the ring would be a sad moment for her, she was willing to comply with their agreement.
