President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has issued a general communiqué published in the Official Gazette with regards to zero waste management. The communiqué emphasizes the importance of continuing efforts to create a sustainable world for future generations through zero waste initiatives. It states that zero waste management systems must be established in buildings, campuses, and local administrations in accordance with the relevant legislation, including the Environmental Law of 9/8/1983, the Zero Waste Regulation published in the Official Gazette on 12/7/2019, and other related laws. Buildings, campuses, and local administrations that do not establish this system, do not obtain a zero waste certificate, or fail to effectively implement the zero waste management system despite having a certificate will be required to address any deficiencies related to the zero waste system. Stringent inspections and monitoring will be conducted, and administrative sanctions will be imposed on those who fail to fulfill their obligations.

Furthermore, in collaboration with relevant public institutions and organizations, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change will organize activities within the scope of the International Zero Waste Day on March 30, as per the procedures and principles determined by the ministry. The activities to be carried out will be selected by the Presidency and may be conducted under the auspices of the Presidency. It is emphasized that all necessary support and assistance required to accelerate efforts in implementing the zero waste management system in buildings, campuses, and local administrations should be provided by all public institutions.

In order to ensure that the planned activities are carried out in the best possible way and to accelerate efforts in implementing the zero waste management system in buildings, campuses, and local administrations, the communiqué calls for the cooperation and support of all public institutions. The message urges all public institutions to fulfill their responsibility in providing any necessary support and assistance. The primary goal is to create a sustainable world for future generations by effectively managing waste and promoting environmentally friendly practices. President Erdoğan’s communiqué emphasizes the importance of collective action and compliance with environmental laws and regulations to achieve this goal.
