The Mercedes-Benz G-Class lineup includes the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G 580, a new all-electric SUV, alongside the Mercedes-Benz G 550 and Mercedes-AMG G 63, which are gasoline-powered mild-hybrid models. The G 580 combines decades of engineering with new-age electronics and equipment, featuring a 116-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that allows for more fording capability than its gasoline-powered counterparts. The SUV can charge at up to 200 kilowatts and go from 10 to 80 percent charge in as little as 32 minutes. It is powered by four electric motors that offer 579 horsepower and 879 pound-feet of torque, enabling it to go from zero to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.
The G-Class offers unique functions, including G-Turn, which allows the SUV to perform a 360-degree “tank turn,” and G-Steering, which provides a smaller turning circle ideal for trail driving. It has a fording capability of up to 33.5 inches of water, can climb a 100 percent grade on suitable surfaces, and offers high stability on lateral slopes of up to 35 degrees. The SUV also features the G-Roar sound experience, a centrally located infotainment screen with a “transparent hood” function, the MBUX infotainment system, a Nappa leather-covered multifunction steering wheel, Burmester 3D Surround Sound System, and 64-color ambient lighting. American drivers can enjoy the Edition One version for the 2025 model year, which includes various packages and unique interior features with blue color details throughout.
Safety and assistance systems on the G 580 include adaptive cruise control, lane centering technology, active braking assist, emergency stopping assist, active lane keeping assist, active blind spot monitoring, driver fatigue monitoring, active parking assist, accident noise distress prevention, traffic sign assist, and a 360-degree camera view. The SUV is set to be available for purchase in limited quantities later this year, with pricing not disclosed at debut.
