A fire broke out in a junkyard in İvedikköy Mahallesi in the afternoon for unknown reasons, quickly growing due to the wind and creating a thick layer of smoke in the sky. In response to the report, a large number of firefighting teams were dispatched from Ankara, Etimesgut, and Sincan districts. As a result of the teams’ efforts, the fire was largely brought under control.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality stated that a total of 111 vehicles and 468 personnel from firefighting, AFAD, OGM, THK, DHİM, EGM, and gendarmerie teams were intensively working on extinguishing the fire. The statement mentioned that the fire was contained by dumping soil on the spot and with intensive interventions to prevent it from spreading elsewhere, while efforts to combat the remaining section of the fire were ongoing.
Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin provided statements to TRT Haber, confirming that there were no casualties or injuries in the fire. According to Şahin, the fire started in an open area where tires were stored, leading to intense smoke due to the nature of the material being tire-based.
