The favorite (and luckiest) prize in the El Niño Lottery, the lottery of Three Kings Day

The number 0 is the most popular ending for the first prize in the Extraordinary Draw of ‘El Niño’, having been drawn a total of 22 times, with the most recent occurrence in 2021, according to data provided by Loterías y Apuestas del Estado (LAE). Madrid is the luckiest region in Spain, with 43 wins. Following the number 0 in frequency of appearance for the first prize is the number 7, which has appeared 14 times (the last being in 2015), followed by the number 9 with 13 appearances (last seen in 2005) and tied with the number 4, which won in 2016, 2017, and 2024. The number 5 follows closely with 12 wins, the latest being in 2022.

The number 2 has been the reintegration number for the first prize 11 times, with the most recent occurrence in 2020. This is followed by the number 6 with ten appearances (last seen in 2003), the number 1 with nine appearances (last seen in 1996), and the number 8 with eight wins (last seen in 2012). Lastly, the number 3 has appeared seven times, with the most recent occurrence in the 2023 draw. In terms of geographical locations, Madrid has been the luckiest place for the first prize, with 43 wins, followed by Barcelona (38), Bilbao (18), Valencia (16), Seville (11), and San Sebastián (9).

The 2025 Extraordinary Draw of ‘El Niño’ will distribute a total of 770 million euros in prizes on January 6, 2025, with the first prize being 2 million euros per series, meaning 200,000 euros per winning ticket. The draw will take place at 12:00 pm at the Drawing Hall of Loterías y Apuestas del Estado in Madrid, using the Multiple Draw system. There will be 55 series of 100,000 tickets each, priced at 200 euros per ticket, divided into tenths of 20 euros. The total revenue from ticket sales amounts to 1.1 billion euros, with 70% of this being allocated to prizes, equating to the 770 million euros.

The most significant prizes include the first prize of 2 million euros per series, the second prize of 750,000 euros per series, and the third prize of 250,000 euros per series. In addition, the ‘El Niño’ Draw will also distribute 20 prizes of 3,500 euros, 1,400 prizes of 1,000 euros, and 5,000 prizes of 400 euros, among others. The draw is highly anticipated by participants across Spain, with many hoping that luck will be on their side in winning one of the generous prizes on offer. The draw is expected to attract a large audience, both in person and through live broadcasts, as the excitement of potentially winning a substantial prize grips the nation.
