Ankara 21st Heavy Penal Court convened with the presence of the arrested defendants Şeker and Karakurt, as well as their lawyers. After reading the documents in the case file, the presiding judge announced that witnesses would be called to testify.
During the trial, witness Ceren G. stated that she was sitting on her balcony on the day of the incident. She described seeing a person next to a red car with white gloves on their hands, inspecting the vehicle. She observed an unusual situation and mentioned that she saw two people arguing, leading her to believe that the person inspecting the car was a thief. She then called the police.
Ceren G. observed the altercation and saw one of the individuals firing a gun. She identified the shooter as Osman Şeker. Following the lawyers’ statements, the court announced that the detained defendants would remain in custody, and the trial was adjourned to May 28.
The background of the incident dates back to September 6, 2023, when Ankara Police determined that Şeker, who had fled after shooting Levent İşçen with a gun on Cinnah Avenue in Aziziye District, was in Konya. Police also identified the license plate of the vehicle Şeker used when coming to Ankara to carry out the armed attack. Karakurt, who allegedly assisted Şeker, was also apprehended in Konya.
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had prepared an indictment against the defendants for the crime of “premeditated murder.” The court session shed light on the events of that fateful day, with Ceren G.’s testimony playing a crucial role in piecing together the sequence of events leading up to the tragic shooting. The trial is set to continue on May 28, with both suspects remaining in custody as the legal proceedings unfold.
